The Authors

Dan Armstrong: Prairie Fire is a novel about the American family farmers standing up to the Agricultural combine, and Taming the Dragon is a novella set at the Three Gorges Dam on the Yangtze River.

Tom Arnold: Checkpoint Charlie is an action/adventure historical novel set in Europe in 1966. Three itinerant expatriates wander into East Berlin and are arrested by the East German state police. While behind the Wall, they befriend two dissident East Berliners and concoct a dangerous scheme to help them escape to the West. Will they succeed or will they be recaptured before they reach freedom?

Diane Bentley-Baker: Child of Light tells the engrossing journey of time traveler Poma as she travels through skillfully woven history and cultures along the silk road in search of the Royal Purple. Diane teaches in the fiber arts and is an avid photographer, poet and writer. Some of her articles can be seen in Spin-Off Magazine and various fiber arts newsletters.

Jo-Brew: What Next, Ms Elliott? is the story of a widow with a desire to turn retirement into a fulfilling new life. She must deal with family, a thwarted romance, and dark secrets in her struggle. Jo is a woman writing about women. The book explores life through triumphs, tragedies, and plain old existence as it affects the woman of today. Jo’s novels, columns, essays and short stories shed light on the paths of our lives and those around us.

Marva Dasef: Tales of a Texas Boy is an anthology of twenty stories told by a boy named Eddie growing up in the West Texas Panhandle during the 1930s. If you asked Eddie, he'll tell you pigs can fly and show you where to find real mammoth bones. Take his word for it when he tells you always bet on the bear. These are things he learned while dreaming of becoming a cowboy. Tales will be available at a special event price.

Elbert DeMoss: Sweet Oregon is a memoir of the DeMoss family of musicians, who hit the stage in the Nineteenth Century. Going on annual concert tours between 1872 and 1933, the “Lyric Bards” entertained in every state and several Canadian provinces. Loaded with wonderful photos, this book is a delightful journey into Oregon’s past.

Peter Jensen: Secrets of the Sonnets is a book exploring Shakespeare’s use of language and code tricks, including an intriguing use of a word substitution code used by the Elizabethan Secret Police! Peter will give a short talk focusing on just one or two of the many lively examples provided in his book. Secrets of the Sonnets will also be available at a special event price.

Sandy Jensen: I Saw Us in a Painting is a book of poems organized around the symbols in the cover painting by her sister. Her poetry focuses on the magical quality of everyday moments, both consequential (birth, marriage, death) and inconsequential (everyday beauty around us). She will read a few poems, and her book will be available at a reduced price for this event.

Linda Kuhlmann: Koenig’s Wonder is a fictional portrayal of her family's history that began when her great-grandfather and his brother came to America from Germany and were separated, never to meet again.
